Saturday we hosted a great Wine 101 class for a private party. This was a birthday party for one of my oldest and dearest friends so when she inquired about adding Decant, I was really excited. We partnered with Xanh’s Bistro in Fountain Valley owned by Haley Nguyen for catering. Haley developed a fresh and contemporary flare for the event including:
Ahi tuna on cucumber rounds / ginger sauce
Rice paper rolls with shrimp & pork
Grilled Chicken breast skewers infused with Kaffir lime leaves and coconut cream.
Beef rolls with leeks / teriyaki glaze
Asian spice cake with cardamom cream
Wes did a great job of mixing up the wine selection to provide diversity and depth allowing the group to experience the different colors, flavors and aroma’s he discussed throughout the night. What was interesting to me was the wide array of preferences amongst the group. They were definitely divided into two distinctive groups (sweets vs. bold & heavy) and not many varied in the middle.
The class started off with easy tasting tips, common misconceptions, wine terminology and of course Q&A. The party was filled with fun personalities, interesting questions and stimulating interaction. Most importantly, everyone there was really open-minded and excited to learn about wine whether they knew a little or a lot.
We had a great time “sharing the vine” with this group. It was great meeting everyone and we look forward to many more events together. To our hosts Jamie and John, thank you for sharing your birthday, friends and home with Decant.
Thank you to Wes, Jen, Decant Wine Events, and Xahn's Bistro for a fabulous night of food, wine, information, and friends. The evening was successful because of the time, effort, knowledge and personality that Decant brought to our home. My friends continue to comment on how much they learned and how much fun was had by all.
